Success story

De Poort Cafeteria

"The best thing about Roltex? The service!"
Fedat Sari has been in business for decades. He started out with a chip shop in Belgium and later ran, amongst other things, a large industrial bakery and various businesses in the Netherlands. He now owns two cafeterias, of which Cafetaria de Poort near the Brusselse Poort is his latest venture. He uses a Vectron till system in both businesses. In Maastricht, he is using the new Vectron Smart concept, which also features a Cikam cash payment terminal linked to the till.

Entrepreneurship runs in the family

Fedat started his business career at a young age. His parents were self-employed, and his brothers and cousins are also self-employed. He himself took over a large industrial bakery at a young age. Around fifty people worked there, and bread was delivered to around 120 shops every day. After nine years, he sold the bakery and went on to run various other businesses. Among other things, he ran a chip shop in Belgium and, later, various businesses in the Netherlands.

He eventually ended up at Cafetaria de Poort in Maastricht. Of all the businesses he’s run, he likes this one best. He says that’s mainly down to the atmosphere. “Everything’s open here. You’re not just sitting within four walls. You can see the sun, rain and snow outside. It’s full of life.”

Familiar with Vectron

Fedat has been working with Vectron for a long time. He first came across it in Belgium and is now using the system again at Cafetaria de Poort. He particularly likes the ease of use and the ability to make adjustments himself. “That ease of use – the fact that we can programme it ourselves – is important to me.”

According to Fedat, Vectron offers a wide range of options. At the same time, he doesn’t have to use all the functions. He can tailor the system to his own needs and programme it himself when necessary. It is precisely this combination of options and ease of use that suits the way he works.

Less hassle with cash

Next to the till system at Cafetaria de Poort is a Cikam cash payment terminal. Customers insert their own coins and/or notes. The money is automatically checked, counted and securely stored. This means that staff no longer need to accept cash, count it or give change.

Fedat explains that he used to regularly encounter cash discrepancies. Particularly when several staff members are working at the same time, it can be difficult to work out where a discrepancy has arisen.

According to Fedat, around 60 per cent of payments are currently made by debit card, with the remaining 40 per cent or so paid in cash. This means that the efficient handling of cash remains important.

He’s clear about the payment terminal. “It doesn’t make mistakes. It knows exactly.” What’s more, Fedat no longer has to count the money every day. He counts the safe once a week and doesn’t have to worry about it for the rest of the week.

A service that is accessible

For Fedat, good cooperation isn’t just about the till system, but above all about the service that goes with it. He’s known Roltex for about 25 years now and knows that he’ll get help quickly whenever there’s a problem. “When we ring, they ring us back and we also get feedback,” he says.

According to Fedat, many problems can be resolved remotely. If that doesn’t work, Roltex will come to the premises. “I like that.” Even when an employee is stuck on something, they can contact Roltex and they’ll work with them to find a solution. For Fedat, that accessibility is a key part of the partnership. A good till system is great, but knowing that someone is on hand if something goes wrong gives him the confidence to use it.
