Success story

Parkstad Limburg Theatres

"No empty promises, don't be difficult, just deal with it."
Together, we bring theatre life in the Mining Region to full bloom. Based on this conviction, Parkstad Limburg Theatres in Heerlen-Kerkrade and the Toon Hermans Theatre in Sittard-Geleen are joining forces intensively. Since the summer of 2023, the three theatres will jointly take care of programming, ticket sales, marketing, technology and... catering.

Everything must be right

The eighty catering staff in Heerlen, Kerkrade and Sittard form one team and use the same POS system: Vectron from Roltex. "And that offers great advantages," says theatre manager Service & Events Ruud Coumans on behalf of the three theatres, which together organise 1100 (cultural) activities a year. "If you jointly programme four to five performances a day, you have to organise things smartly and efficiently at the front. Vectron is the central POS system that supports us in this. Items, prices, turnover reports and analyses: all data linked to an activity are immediately available digitally. With that information, management can make adjustments and work more strongly towards our mission. By providing a broad and attractive offering together, we attract more visitors and give space to new stage talent."

Flexible and hands-on

The central POS system also offers advantages in terms of personnel. Since all three theatres have the same system, catering staff can be flexibly deployed. "We work the same way everywhere, which makes it easy for colleagues to rotate," says Ruud. Parkstad Limburg Theatres has been using Roltex's POS system and services for some time. "Roltex is a partner that solves matters flexibly and hands-on. No empty promises, no being difficult, but getting down to business. They understand what it means when the system is down with a thousand guests in the room. They know our industry, buildings and way of working. That's very nice."

Break drink

So it was only logical that the Toon Hermans Theatre also made the switch. Until recently, an external caterer took care of the catering in Sittard. Under the leadership of Events & Catering coordinator Ken Heugen, the theatre now does this together with Parkstad Limburg Theatres. And Roltex. Flexible is not only the service, but also the system itself, the catering staff know from experience. Ruud explains: "A while ago, Roltex built in the interval drink service for us. Visitors can order their drinks before the start. During the performance, we make sure the drink is ready at intermission. This way, no one has to queue and people can enjoy their break to the full. And our staff work much more efficiently."

Personal contact

By the way, theatre-goers do not order their interval drinks online, but in person from an employee at the bar. "That's a conscious choice," says Ruud. "The theatre is all about hospitality. It is one of the few places where you still look at each other and talk to each other. We want to encourage that interaction. Not everything has to be digital."
